I love skincare! It doesn’t have the same ‘love’ effect as makeup as you can’t always see an immediate result but I love looking after my skin so I can use a lighter foundation/not as much concealer or just go without altogether. Over the last month, I have been so grateful for having looked after my skin as I developed eczema or something in that family around my eyes and have had to go barefaced every. single.day. I don’t usually have a problem with this but I do love wearing makeup and I feel much more put together for date nights or going to work etc. Because I can’t wear makeup I have taken to buying new skincare and I have managed to find some really good products!
I’m going to start with the typical facial skincare; this is a very new product so I don’t have a review as such but the Pixi Retinol Tonic is so far so good. I LOVE the Pixi Glow Tonic and I knew I’d want to give this a try. Yes, I am only 23 but it’s never too early for anti-aging – prevention is better than cure! I use this of an evening and then the Glow Tonic in the morning and as a duo, I would highly recommend!
After toning and a serum, I’ve been using the Lumene Glow Boost Essence to give me a healthy glow – especially when not wearing foundation! This helps early mornings and late nights not look so bad and I think it will really help combat dull winter skin! I was sent a few samples of the new Caudalie Vinopure collection and the serum is so far a stand out for me! I use it on any areas I usually get spots before my Effeclar Duo serum and it’s really lightweight and soothing. It has also been calming down any redness I have which is great!
The final step in my skincare routine is the Neutrogena Hydro Boost which in texture is very similar to one of my all-time faves the Origins GinZing moisturizer. This is cheaper though so I think this is a good alternative. It claims to release hydration throughout the day which is good – I don’t really suffer from dry skin especially not in the summer so I think the true test will come in Winter time when the gel formula might be too light for me but we’ll see!
Although I love my Burts Bees for on the go I’ve recently gone back to an old favorite of mine and as it sees of everyone else’s’ the Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm. I use this AM and PM and a bit of a lip mask and it’s really been helping with my dry chapped lips!
Last and by no means least is probably the star of the show the Body Shop Hemp Range. This has been around for years but I’ve recently picked it up to help with eczema and oh my god it helps! This has had the best reaction from my skin out of everything I’ve tried! I bought the hand cream and the Heavy-Duty Face Protector which I’ve been using around my eyes and it hasn’t stung or broke me out! Despite the name, it’s actually quite lightweight on the skin which is perfect for around my eyes!
Another month has flown by! I cannot believe it is nearly Christmas, I am so excited and my boyfriend thinks I’m a lunatic already planning what decorations will go where but I feel like once I’m back in uni I’ll blink and it’ll be Christmas! Anyway onto the favorites! I think this is my smallest favourites ever. I’ve had a bad reaction around my eyes and I have no idea what it is so I’ve been avoiding makeup and sticking to what I know as to avoid angering it! I think I’ve finally got it under control which some steroid cream from the doctor so I hope that clears it up! I actually really miss wearing makeup so hopefully, there’ll be some new looks coming as soon as it’s cleared!
The Ordinary Serum Foundation 2.0 N
This isn’t a new favorite but earlier this month I repurchased this in a darker shade for summer. I love it as always, it’s really lightweight but still has a decent amount of coverage. I usually use one pump but a few weeks back I tried two pumps and it didn’t look cakey or dry on the face. I’d highly recommend.
Lacura Exfoliating Mud Mask
I’ve heard so much good stuff about the Lacura range at Aldi but I’ve always missed their Special Buys this month though I managed to snap up three – the mask, hot cloth cleanser and a beautiful fig candle which looks much more expensive than its £9! The mask though is a stand out for me it tightens and brightens the skin but is still gentle and doesn’t break me out. Perfect for a mask if you ask me! I’ve seen a few of these still left in Aldi so you might still be able to get your hands on it!
Aveeno Baby Daily Care Moisturising Lotion
As I said earlier I’ve had quite a bad reaction around my eyes this month and I’m still trying to get it under control. I’ve tried everything! Although this didn’t get rid of it, it’s still a lovely moisturizer and good for soothing really dry and sensitive skin!
Earlier this month I took a trip up to Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival and it was amazing! I’d never been up to Scotland before and the fringe festival was definitely a baptism of fire but I’d recommend it to everyone! It was one of the highlights of my summer hence why it’s in my favorites! If you want to read more I have a full blog post all about it here!
Book of the Month: This Is Going To Hurt
I’m sure you will have heard about this by now I feel like everyone is falling for it and it definitely lives up to the hype. It’s so funny and so heartwarming at the same time. I feel like this is a book everyone should read especially with the state of the NHS at the moment – it’s really eye-opening to see it from the Junior Doctors perspective and how hard it actually is!
There we go, August is done! I hate how fast this year is going, the time really is going nowhere. I sound so old but it’s true! I hope you’ve enjoyed this post – I love reading favourites posts I’ve found some of my favourite products in them!
Thanks for reading!
Who gets sick in August?! I don’t know how I managed it but in the middle of a heatwave I got sick – nothing major just a cold. The exact opposite of a summer illness. Now when I’m sick in the winter I know exactly what to do and I get in bed with candles and a cup of tea and stay there until I’m well again. But I could not imagine putting a candle on in this heat never mind lying under the covers in bed so I did what I know best and went home to my mums for the day.
I had a full day of girlie pampering which actually managed to cure me – yes I did nearly faint in Primark but it was all in the name of new PJs! To make the most of this sick day me and my mum went shopping for said new PJ’s before watching Mamma Mia 2 (highly recommend) and getting pizza. Pizza cures all, the only downside was not ordering a wine as I could just about taste and nobody wants a wine headache when their sick especially when you can’t even taste the wine!
When we got home I decided to run myself the bath or all baths and have a full pamper routine. I’m talking Lush bath bomb, hair mask, face mask, shaving every inch of your body and Netflix. I managed to finish SAFE on Netflix in two days and it is so good if you haven’t watched it definitely add it to your list!
For my bath, I used the Lash Intergalactic bath bomb which is my all time fave mermaid-like bath. Whilst in the bath I applied the Lacura Exfoliating Mud Mask and Luseta Coconut Milk Hair Mask. I felt so squeaky clean when I got out of the bath and had my new PJ’s and fluffy socks waiting for me! I then used the Origins Drink Up Intensive and let it soak in before using The Ordinary Retinol 0.2% in Squalane, Kheils Midnight Recovery Eye and Clarins Multi-Active Nuit night cream. These three used together make my skin look really glowing and plump the next morning. I love the Retinol I started on 0.2 but it hasn’t caused any issues with my skin so I’ll definitely try a higher percentage next time!
Maybe it was purely coincidence but when I woke up the next day I felt a million times better! I can’t believe I got sick in August that’s a new one for me!
Thank you so much for reading!
I am a massive Glossier fan – everything I’ve tried I love but there are so many products to choose from that a repurchase is the gold standard of amazing. I very rarely repurchase products – I’m always on the lookout for new stuff. Don’t get me wrong I have a few tried and tested staples; most of which are skincare. I thought I’d talk through my recent Glossier empties and why I would or wouldn’t repurchase!
Milky Jelly Cleanser
I think this is really good. The pump makes it so handy to use and it looks super cute on my bathroom shelf. However, at the minute I can’t see myself repurchasing. Never say never but I think this is definitely more of a summer cleanser. It’s so lightweight and it doesn’t make my skin feel dry or tight after using it but coming into winter I prefer a more heavy duty cleanser to get everything off. The jury is still out though, I’m in two minds about using it as my second cleanse but to be honest I think there are better cleansers out there and I don’t think this done all that much for my skin.
I really like this and I 10/10 would recommend. It does exactly what it’s supposed to and it looks cute while doing it. I love pink can you tell? But I am really excited by Pixi’s new launch of tonics to add to their Glow Tonic (which is my all time fave!) so I’m definitely going to try their retinol toner first before I repurchase this although as I’m typing it I’m thinking Solution in the AM and Pixi in the PM. I’m my bank accounts worst enemy!
This is perfect and I will definitely repurchase. Even if I find another moisturiser I will definitely use this again and again. It’s so lightweight yet hydrating I love it! I also want to try the Priming Mo0isturiser Rich when the cold drys my skin out.
I actually ran out of this a while back and haven’t repurchased it I’ve just been holding onto the dregs that are left but I am planning on buying it again! I’ve already purchased it for a few friends as gifts and to me that it the sign of a really good product! I’d never gift something not worth it!
I’ve read this back and I’ve mentioned winter twice and it’s only the beginning of August. I am full of cold at the minute so I’m going to blame it on that! I’m actually in Edinburgh as you read this enjoying the fringe festival and I can’t wait to tell you all about it when I’m back – and what makeup/skincare bit I’ve brought with me obviously!
Thank you so much for reading!
Here we are again! I cannot believe how fast this year is going, my birthday is in April and usually, I feel like these first three months drag but this year I’ve blinked and I’m almost 23! I don’t have many favourites this month but the ones I do have I love! So lets begin..
Becca Backlight Priming Filter
I am sure I’ve talked about this in a favourites post before but I have been using this every. single. day. this month. I have somehow ended up with three travel sizes which is perfect but I’ll definitely be buying the full-size one when these run out! It leaves my skin with a lit from within glow which is perfect for me, I love looking dewy which this had down to a t! Somedays I’ve just been using a tiny bit of this and nothing else; I find it lifts the skin and makes me look more put together!
Urban Decay Naked Petite
Oh. my. god. I was obsessed with this as soon as I saw it online, so much so that I set a reminder on my phone so I’d know as soon as it went on sale. I love matte eyeshadows but I don’t have too many of them which makes this perfect. The orange/red tones are perfect for me and obviously, as its a naked pallet, they blend like a dream. I won’t say too much more because I have a full post on it here but id highly recommend!
Glossier Priming Filter
This moisturiser is my new all time favourite, it’s nocked the Origins Ginzing off the top spot. I love how hydrating this is whilst not being heavy or thick. I have quite oily skin so I love a hydrating but light moisturiser and this ticks all of the boxes! It also leaves the face a little tacky so applying make up would be a dream, however, I’ve been applying my Becca primer over the top! I’ve also been obsessed with the Glossier Solution but I’ve left it at my mums so I couldn’t find it to take a picture.
The F Word – Lily Pebbles
I was so excited to read this when I first heard about it. I’m a massive fan of Lily’s and I’ve been reading her blog since her ‘What I Heart Today’ days and if you would have told me way back then that blogging would evolve to the point my favourite bloggers were bringing out books I would never have believed you! I love this book, I love celebrating women and female friendships, I can’t imagine anybody else could have done the topic more justice! 10/10.
Third monthly favourites of 2018 done. I will not bore you with the shock of this anymore but keep checking back next month for my birthday month I hope it’ll be exciting around here!
Ever since Glossier launched in the UK I’ve been a fan but recently it’s stepped up a notch and I’m now in the middle of a full-blown love affair. I don’t know what it is about the brand but everything I try I am obsessed with. The only exception being Generation G in Jam which grew on me over the course of a few weeks – but now I LOVE it. Today I’m going to talk you through a few of my faves!
Starting with make-up it will come as no surprise to anyone that my first purchases where Boy Brow in Medium and Haloscope in Quartz. These two are some of Glossier’s best sellers. I love to use them both on no makeup days to give my face a bit of a pick me up. At first, I couldn’t understand how people just wear Boy Brow on its own but lately I’ve been dragging/pushing it into my brows and they actually look full and stay in place all day – it’s a revelation!
The concept behind Glossier is to look natural and dewy which I think is why I’m such a big fan. The Stretch concealer gives a live coverage but it melts into the skin like a dream. I tend to use this alone or as a base for a medium/full coverage concealer to give the skin a more natural look.
Glossier’s skin care wasn’t something I was overly keen on trying – I don’t know why. But when my all time favourite moisturiser ran out I decided to try their priming moisturiser and to get free delivery I also ordered the Milky Jelly Cleanser and Balm dot Com. Excellent logic there. I’d tried samples of the cleanser and I never felt like it done much as I was used to my skin feeling tight after washing but this is so good, I can see why people go crazy over it. It manages to cleanse and leave skin feeling hydrated all in one. I can’t believe it took me so long to try!
Their moisturiser is also a big favourite of mine now, it leaves skin hydrated but on top of that creates the perfect base for makeup. You could even go sans primer but I’m a huge primer fan so I don’t skip this step. I think it’s safe to say this is one the best I’ve tried from Glossier. I’ve also been testing the Solution which so far so good! I am loving it. I’ve been a loyal fan of the Pixi Glow Tonic for years but I think this has taken the top spot in my heart! I also love the pump it’s so handy for first thing in the morning!
I have so many lip balms but I had to try this. I have Coconut and Birthday Cake and I take them everywhere with me! They are unlike most brands in the sense they actually do hydrate my lips, they haven’t quite taken over my love of Burts Bees but they are definitely a contender!
So there we have it an ode to Glossier! Do you have any recommendations for me that I haven’t already tried? I’d love to try more by them!
It’s been quite a few years since I discovered Origins and I can’t quite remember what it was that got me interested in the brand but I think it’s safe to say I am obsessed! I think it’s more of an obsession with the GinZing range itself; I have tried most of it and some products I could not live without!
Recently I’ve been having a bit of trouble with my skin, nothing major just a few spots here and there but I sooner not have any – I mean wouldn’t we all?! I think the cause of all this is changing my skincare routine so I’ve gone back to basics and repurchased my trusty old faithfulls!
Ginzing Refreshing Scrub Cleanser
I think changing my cleanser was the root of all my skin issues. I’m sure there are more cleansers that work for my skin but I can’t for the life of me find them! This is perfect. It’s a two in one scrub cleanser which is gentle enough for daily use and infused with radiance-boosting Ginseng and coffee to energize. This leaves my skin feeling smooth and looking bright. It also unclogs pores leaving me with fewer blackheads and almost zero breakouts!
Ginzing Energy Boosting Moisturizer
This smells amazing! I feel like I say that about every product and I know smell is completely irrelevant for a moisturizer but it’s definitely a selling point! I use this every morning and the smell itself wakes me up its a mix of lemon, grapefruit, and orange perfect for early starts! It has a gel consistency and is lightweight and oil free whilst still being majorly hydrating!
Ginzing Refreshing Eye Cream To Brighten and Depuff
I think the main selling point of this is the colour, it’s pink so when it’s under the eyes it helps to brighten and balances out any dark circles. Don’t get me wrong this isn’t a miracle worker and you do still need a concealer if like me you look permanently tired but it definitely helps! It’s also hydrating and isn’t heavy under the eyes which is more than ideal!
If there was ever a contestant for my ride or die products these three would definitely be up there with them! I love trying new products especially skincare but this time around I’ve definitly learnt if its not broken dont fix it! Sometimes you should stick to what you know and love!
I’m not really one for repurchasing when it’s gone it’s gone and I move onto find something new however these three I’ve been repurchasing for a while now.
I don’t think I’ve met many people who don’t know about this. Thanks to Caroline Hirons I feel like this is one of everyone’s faves! I’ve lost count to how many bottles of this I’ve gone through but it is a lot. My ASOS next day delivery is worth it for this alone!
I ‘ve been using this for years. I always buy three when it’s on three for two in boots so I’m never without! It evens out the texture of the skin, unclogs pores, gets rid of marks and stops spots from forming, you can’t ask for much more!
This is a new one for me but I’ve already gone through three bottles. At £6 this is a steal, I put it on as the first step in my moisturizing routine as the Hyaluronic acid helps to keep the moisture in the skin making skin look bright and fresh all day.
I’m currently writing my everyday skincare routine so check back if you’re interested in seeing that!
