New In: Skincare

beauty, skincare, Uncategorized

I love skincare! It doesn’t have the same ‘love’ effect as makeup as you can’t always see an immediate result but I love looking after my skin so I can use a lighter foundation/not as much concealer or just go without altogether. Over the last month, I have been so grateful for having looked after my skin as I developed eczema or something in that family around my eyes and have had to go barefaced every. single.day. I don’t usually have a problem with this but I do love wearing makeup and I feel much more put together for date nights or going to work etc. Because I can’t wear makeup I have taken to buying new skincare and I have managed to find some really good products!

I’m going to start with the typical facial skincare; this is a very new product so I don’t have a review as such but the Pixi Retinol Tonic is so far so good. I LOVE the Pixi Glow Tonic and I knew I’d want to give this a try. Yes, I am only 23 but it’s never too early for anti-aging – prevention is better than cure! I use this of an evening and then the Glow Tonic in the morning and as a duo, I would highly recommend!

After toning and a serum, I’ve been using the Lumene Glow Boost Essence to give me a healthy glow – especially when not wearing foundation! This helps early mornings and late nights not look so bad and I think it will really help combat dull winter skin! I was sent a few samples of the new Caudalie Vinopure collection and the serum is so far a stand out for me! I use it on any areas I usually get spots before my Effeclar Duo serum and it’s really lightweight and soothing. It has also been calming down any redness I have which is great!

The final step in my skincare routine is the Neutrogena Hydro Boost which in texture is very similar to one of my all-time faves the Origins GinZing moisturizer. This is cheaper though so I think this is a good alternative. It claims to release hydration throughout the day which is good – I don’t really suffer from dry skin especially not in the summer so I think the true test will come in Winter time when the gel formula might be too light for me but we’ll see!

Although I love my Burts Bees for on the go I’ve recently gone back to an old favorite of mine and as it sees of everyone else’s’ the Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm. I use this AM and PM and a bit of a lip mask and it’s really been helping with my dry chapped lips!

Last and by no means least is probably the star of the show the Body Shop Hemp Range. This has been around for years but I’ve recently picked it up to help with eczema and oh my god it helps! This has had the best reaction from my skin out of everything I’ve tried! I bought the hand cream and the Heavy-Duty Face Protector which I’ve been using around my eyes and it hasn’t stung or broke me out! Despite the name, it’s actually quite lightweight on the skin which is perfect for around my eyes!

Haul: TK Maxx / Boots Beauty Bits

beauty, Uncategorized

I don’t remember the last time I wrote a haul over on my blog but I have three planned for the next few weeks so I hope you like them! I recently found a few bargains in TK Maxx and Boots had a points event on so obviously I’ve been feeling a little spendy! I’ve left out the repurchases as they’re things I’ve spoken about a million times in previous posts and I’ve definitely run out of things to say about them! My TK Maxx finds are what I’m most happy about as they are such bargains and I never find makeup in TK Maxx!

IMG_4954

tarte Tartiest Pro To Go

I couldn’t believe this when I saw it sat there in TK Maxx and nobody had mauled it with stocky fingers which is what had happened to most of the decent products! I’ve been wanting to try Tarte for ages but it’s so hard to get hold of in the UK and I was not paying for shipping from the US! The shades in this are lovely and the burgundy/purple shade is perfect for autumn winter! I love it and can see myself getting a lot of use over the coming months!

Illamasqua Lava Lips Marbled Lipstick – Vixen

I’ve never really been that fussed about Illamasqua to be honest but this shade looked so pretty – like a burnt orange/nude so I had to try it especially when it was £6.99 instead of £20! This is a little bit drying but nothing to major and it looks so pretty on the lips!

By Terry Rouge-Expert Click Stick – 9. Flesh Award

I am so happy to have finally got my hands on a By Terry Product and at about half price!  This was also a TK Maxx find and cost me £12.99 instead of £24.50 which is insane! I love this as it applies so easily and the pigment is amazing! It’s also hydrating on the lips and I can finally understand the hype over By Terry products!

Burts Bees – Pink Grapefruit

I love Burts Bees lip balm and this one is no different! The taste and smell are exactly that of Pink Grapefruit and it is so hydrating on the lips – its a 10/10 from me!

NYX Eye Brow Powder Pencil – 02 Taupe

I have to admit I am happy with my current brow routine but I recently saw a friend wearing this and her brows looked amazing so I had to give it a try and I was not disappointed! It also takes about a minute to do my brows which is perfect especially with going back to uni in two weeks – I’ll be looking for a lie in at every chance I get.

Elegant Touch Quick Dry Spray

I am so impatient – to the point where I hate waiting for my nails to dry and always end up smudging them. I had a thought the other day that it would be perfect to have a spray to dry nails and a quick google later found this! This does exactly what it says on the tin and dry nails in 60 seconds which is perfect!

Babyliss Quick Blow-Dry Copper Collection Brush

Again I am so impatient and I hate drying my hair! This brush claims to dry hair quicker due to the barrel and vents and it does live up to the claims which is great! Another brilliant product for the dark mornings that are creeping up on us!

Garnier Fresh-Mix Tissue Mask

I love the idea of these! Hydration is a big thing for me so I’m always on the lookout for new products. I am a massive fan of hyaluronic acid and the blue sheet mask contains an entire bottles worth of the stuff which is amazing! I love it! I haven’t used the Glow mask yet but if this one’s anything to go by I won’t be disappointed!

I love reading hauls but my bank account definitely doesn’t! I hope you’ve liked this post as, as I said at the beginning of this post I have a few more planned – a little different to this but still! Let me know if you’ve tried any of these products and what you think!

Thanks so much for reading!

Glossier Empties: Worth The Hype?

beauty, Uncategorized

I am a massive Glossier fan – everything I’ve tried I love but there are so many products to choose from that a repurchase is the gold standard of amazing. I very rarely repurchase products – I’m always on the lookout for new stuff. Don’t get me wrong I have a few tried and tested staples; most of which are skincare. I thought I’d talk through my recent Glossier empties and why I would or wouldn’t repurchase!

IMG_4683

Milky Jelly Cleanser

I think this is really good. The pump makes it so handy to use and it looks super cute on my bathroom shelf. However, at the minute I can’t see myself repurchasing. Never say never but I think this is definitely more of a summer cleanser. It’s so lightweight and it doesn’t make my skin feel dry or tight after using it but coming into winter  I prefer a more heavy duty cleanser to get everything off. The jury is still out though, I’m in two minds about using it as my second cleanse but to be honest I think there are better cleansers out there and I don’t think this done all that much for my skin.

Solution

I really like this and I 10/10 would recommend. It does exactly what it’s supposed to and it looks cute while doing it. I love pink can you tell? But I am really excited by Pixi’s new launch of tonics to add to their Glow Tonic (which is my all time fave!) so I’m definitely going to try their retinol toner first before I repurchase this although as I’m typing it I’m thinking Solution in the AM and Pixi in the PM. I’m my bank accounts worst enemy!

Priming Moisturiser

This is perfect and I will definitely repurchase. Even if I find another moisturiser I will definitely use this again and again. It’s so lightweight yet hydrating I love it! I also want to try the Priming Mo0isturiser Rich when the cold drys my skin out.

Boy Brow

I actually ran out of this a while back and haven’t repurchased it I’ve just been holding onto the dregs that are left but I am planning on buying it again! I’ve already purchased it for a few friends as gifts and to me that it the sign of a really good product! I’d never gift something not worth it!

I’ve read this back and I’ve mentioned winter twice and it’s only the beginning of August. I am full of cold at the minute so I’m going to blame it on that! I’m actually in Edinburgh as you read this enjoying the fringe festival and I can’t wait to tell you all about it when I’m back – and what makeup/skincare bit I’ve brought with me obviously!

Thank you so much for reading!

The Empties Edit

beauty, Uncategorized

It’s been a little while since I had an empties post for you but I’ve reached the end of quite a few products lately. Why is it, it always happens like that – everything always runs out at the same time and usually weeks away from payday! I’ve been good at keeping hold of things this time as I usually throw them away and there is quite a few…

IMG_3759

Fleur De Force Brow Pencil – Medium

Is it an empties post without this? I think not. I’ve gone through so many of these and I still love them, I hands down think this is the best brow product I’ve ever used, the shade is perfect for me! I’ve already repurchased my fourth/fifth (I’ve lost count) which says a lot!

Glossier BoyBrow – Medium Brown

I love this. I never thought I’d ever use a brow gel up but this is easily the best I’ve tried. It’s like mixing all the best elements of my others faves into one perfect tube. I haven’t repurchased this yet as I do have a few others on the go and I don’t need one just yet… but I will definitely buy it again!

The Ordinary Buffet Serum

I’d heard so much good stuff about this that I couldn’t help myself and had to try it. I have to say I wasn’t overly impressed. I didn’t think it done anything for me that the Hyaluronic Acid 2% doesn’t so for that reason alone I’ve gone back to the Hylarponic acid as its half the price. The buffet serum is very reasonable anyway but I’m a student so…

Nars Creamy Concealer – Vanilla

This one is kind of a cheat as I used most of it up last year and I know it’s probably over its use by date but I wanted to try it again and I fell in love with it! I forgot how much I loved it it’s so creamy and the coverage is amazing! I’d really recommend!

Origins GinZing Face Scrub

I love the Origins GinZing range! I’ve gone on about it so much on my blog that I actually got bored of myself! Over the past few months, I’ve been using this and the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser so it’s lasted longer than I thought. I wasn’t going to repurchase this but my boyfriend loves it so I might get it for him/me and use it as well as Glossier!

I hope you’ve liked this post, I personally love seeing what people get to the end of! If you have any recommendations of what I could replace these with let me know below!

The Favourites Edit: January

beauty, Uncategorized

*Another month of me being shocked that its the end of the month.*

This month has actually gone over quite slowly. I think every January is like that, its cold, miserable and you don’t have Christmas to look forward to. I have quite a few favourites this month and I’ve had less no makeup days than normal which I find quite annoying but my whole vibe has been making sure my skin looks fresh and bright!

fullsizeoutput_267a

Sand & Sky Detoxify + Brighten

I spoke a lot about this in a post last week so I won’t go on too much here. But I couldn’t leave this out. This is hands down one of the best masks I’ve ever used. The difference in my skin after using this is amazing – everything is tighter and brighter!

Glam Glow Moisturisers

I have two favourites from Glam Glow this month the first is the Thirstymud Hydrating treatment. I use this of a night after a face mask and it leaves my skin so glowy and hydrated – you can visibly see the results in the morning. My other favourite is Glowstarter in Nude Glow. I use this on no makeup days and it gives an amazing glow whilst not overdoing it. It also smells like summer in a bottle and I love it!

E45 Cream

This is a bit of a boring one but it’s been a lifesaver for me this month! I managed to eat so much chocolate over Christmas that my skin reacted to all the dairy and majorly dried out. I’ve been carrying this everywhere with me to keep my hands hydrated (and neck? I didn’t even know the neck would react!) It’s worked a treat and now it’s almost cleared up.

fullsizeoutput_267b

It Cosmetics CC Cream

I’m not going ot talk about this too much as I’ve done a full review (you can read that here) however I love this it’s the only foundation I’ve used this month and I can’t imagine anything else coming close. It’s a medium coverage and it has the most amazing dewy whilst not being dewy finish.

Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel

I bought this last summer and I never really got into it even though I’d read so many amazing things about it. This month though I’ve been loving it. I use the smallest amount of product and it goes a long way.  I have found that it doesn’t blend down the neck as well but other than that no complaints.

Gigi Hadid Eyeshadow Palette

I love the cool tones in this palette. I always go for warmer eyeshadows more orangy/cranberry shades so I was excited to try this and I have been loving it. I do find the pigmentation isn’t the same in all the shades some are much better than others but for an everyday eye, this is really good!

NYX Eye Brush – 16

This brush is so fluffy! It blends like a dream and leaves eyeshadows looking seamless. I have nothing but good things to say about it!

Book of the Month

Little Black Book by Otegha Uwagba.

I’ve been reading this in the mornings to set me up for the day and so far so good! I’d highly recommend this to everyone – in fact, I have been recommending it to all my female friends! There are little bits of advice in here which are amazing, I’ve been trying to take them on board especially the parts about not looking a social media which I am awful for!

Special mention to this cute little River Island makeup bag that I picked up in the sale to match my suitcase.

I hope you’ve liked this post – I personally love reading favourites posts so leave a link to your own below for me to read!

2017 Favourites!

beauty, Uncategorized

I can’t believe it’s the end of the year already! I feel like I’ve blinked and it’s the end of the year – I have no idea where the time has gone. I’ve found quite a few new favourites this year (along with some not so favourites but let’s forget about them). I’ve only included new finds of this year as most of my old favourites are years old; Origins Ginzing I’m looking at you!

IMG_3393

Hair Care

I’ve been trying to get my hair into much better condition this year – I even chopped five inches off at the start of the year. Towards the end of the year I’ve started using products after I’ve washed my hair my two favourites have been Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle leave in conditioner and Percy & Reed Volumising No Oil Oil. They both leave my hair so soft and I’ve had noticeably less split ends between haircuts!

IMG_3403

Beauty

I’ve actually been quite boring with my skin care this year, last year I found some firm favourites and I’ve stuck with them but I have added two new steps to my skincare routine. Garnier Micellar Water this is one of my holy grail products, I use it daily whether I’m touching up eyeliner or using it as the first step in taking off my makeup. I love it. I’ve also added in two serums both by The Ordinary. First I found the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 and I’ve loved it ever since – it adds so much moisture to my skin every morning! In the past few months, I started trying Retinol 0.2% and it’s made such a difference to my skin, it’s cleared up any spots I had as well as reducing fine lines; safe to say I’m hooked!

IMG_3398

Make-up

The first half of this year I didn’t find very many new favourites but the past six months or so have been packed full of new favourites. It wouldn’t be a 2017 favourites without including Glossier – Haloscope Quartz, Boy Brow, Strech Concealer and Generation G in Jam. I love all of these and I can’t wait to discover more from Glossier next year! I have also loved Too Faced this year both the HangoveRX Primer and Sweeter Than Peach palette have been daily staples all year and I cant see that stopping.

I’ve also discovered my perfect nude lip Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk – a lot of people say this is too grey but I find it settles to be a lovely pinky nude. I also love the lip liner in the same shade I can see why it’s a cult favourite! Charlotte Tilbury also gave me my favourite foundation – Light Wonder. I love how glowy this is and it can be built up to a fuller coverage or blended out for a more natural look. Last but not least a new favourite I am obsessed with! Before I found the Kiko Nail Varnish I used to get my nails done twice a month and at £25  a go it was not cheap. But these nail varnishes cost £2.50 (I know!) and the last so well – no chips for a least a week I have made so many of my friends try these.

IMG_3399

Perfume

My two perfume favourites are basically the same as they always are Marc Jacobs Daisy and Chloe Love Story, maybe 2018 will be the year I find a new favourite!

So there we go! The end of 2017 is here. I’ve actually had a really good year this year – I started university and my blog and both seem to be going well. Thank you so much for reading this and if you’ve been here since July you are extra amazing! I can’t wait to see what to see what 2018 brings!

New Discoveries: Biore

beauty, Uncategorized

Recently I’ve been noticing how much the beauty industry has changed over the past few years. Long gone are the days where you’d wander into boots and pick whatever looked good, now I feel like I need 10000 recommendations and Instagram pictures to make my choice. Which is why I found it so refreshing when I picked up a face mask based purely on it’s claims – however true or false they might be. I feel like I got lucky this time because this brand is amazing. Don’t get me wrong I’d heard of them but just in passing – no reviews or recommendations.

img_2767.jpg

Lately I’ve been struggling with mild breakouts, nothing major but I didn’t like them nonetheless. I wanted a mask that would clear my black heads and hopefully stop spots. My first purchase was of the Self-Heating One Minute Mask, I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen a mask have such immediate affects; my skin was instantly clearer and more even. You do only get four applications in each pack at at £8.49 its not the cheapest cost per use wise but I really think its worth it and have already repurchased it this time on three for two which makes it a little cheaper!

I also picked up the charcoal nose strips which I wanted to love as they sounded like just what Ineeded however I don’t think they’re nearly as good as the mask so I probably wont be repurchasing, they weren’t bad but definitely not a game changer!

Now this. The Pore Penetrating Charcoal Bar. I had zero expectations for this soap I thought it sounded like the Origins charcoal body wash which I can’t justify buying because I know it’ll end up being wasted! This is a bar of black soap but when you lather it onto your hands the soap turns a white/grey. I wanted to try this as I’ve been getting mini breakouts on my chest and after one use there was a noticeable difference. It was less red and any pimples had calmed right down. I’ve used it a few times on my face but it is quite drying. I have quite oily skin so its not too bad but if you have normal / dry skin I’d give it a miss!

Safe to say I am now a new found fan of Biore. I love their products and can’t wait to try some more – maybe the charcoal powder? Please leave any recommendations below or any new brands that you’ve tried and loved!

Current Skincare Routine

beauty, Uncategorized

FullSizeRender 3

I have tried tested my morning routine so much that now I think I’ve got it down to a fine art. I still mix some products in and out but for the most part, I have a few products I could not live without!

Toner

I’ve always been a massive fan of using a toner and felt so grown up robbing my mum’s Clinique one back in the day! For a few years now I’ve been a loyal fan to the Pixi Glow Tonic and whenever someone asks about my skincare routine it’s always this that I tell them they have to have! I actually used to get my dad to send me some in the post from the Pixi store on Carnaby Street but now it’s much easier to find!

Treatment

I mix it up with my treatment depending on what I need that day. Most of the time I use a little bit of tea tree oil on any spots I might have. (I don’t know if this is recommendable so don’t take my word for it). It dries up any that might be there and stops them from getting any worse. At the moment I’ve been suffering with under the skin spots which don’t seem to get any better or worse so I’m hoping this will work on them!

Eye Cream

I have such tired eyes and nothing seems to work on them. At the moment I’m trying the Polaar Icy Magic which is doing it’s job but to be honest its nothing special. I’m still looking for my miracle worker!

Acid

This is quite a new step into my routine. When I heard Fluer De Force talking about The Ordinary skin care and the price point I knew I had to try it out and it’s amazing. The consistency is a bit thicker than water and it gives so much hydration to the skin. I couldn’t recommend this any more.

Serum

The La Roche Posay serum has been in my routine for so long. I love it, it smooths my skin and helps to prevent and breakouts without being to drying or adding to my oily skin. I legit couldn’t live without this.

Moisturiser

I recently done a post all about my love for this moisturiser so I wont go on too much about it. But this is definitely something that will be somewhere in my routine for years to come I think!

Eye Brightener

This is more of a makeup step but I do it before primer so I’ll include it here. Its the origins GinZing eye cream which I also talked about in my post last week. The pink tint really brightens under the eye area and stops dark circles looking as bad which at six o’clock on a monday morning is a must!

THanks for reading I hope you’ve enjoyed this post! Check back for more I upload every Sunday and Thursday!

Origins Obsessed!

beauty, Uncategorized

It’s been quite a few years since I discovered Origins and I can’t quite remember what it was that got me interested in the brand but I think it’s safe to say I am obsessed! I think it’s more of an obsession with the GinZing range itself; I have tried most of it and some products I could not live without!

Recently I’ve been having a bit of trouble with my skin, nothing major just a few spots here and there but I sooner not have any – I mean wouldn’t we all?! I think the cause of all this is changing my skincare routine so I’ve gone back to basics and repurchased my trusty old faithfulls!

fullsizeoutput_245c

Ginzing Refreshing Scrub Cleanser

I think changing my cleanser was the root of all my skin issues. I’m sure there are more cleansers that work for my skin but I can’t for the life of me find them! This is perfect. It’s a two in one scrub cleanser which is gentle enough for daily use and infused with radiance-boosting Ginseng and coffee to energize. This leaves my skin feeling smooth and looking bright. It also unclogs pores leaving me with fewer blackheads and almost zero breakouts!

Ginzing Energy Boosting Moisturizer

This smells amazing! I feel like I say that about every product and I know smell is completely irrelevant for a moisturizer but it’s definitely a selling point! I use this every morning and the smell itself wakes me up its a mix of lemon, grapefruit, and orange perfect for early starts! It has a gel consistency and is lightweight and oil free whilst still being majorly hydrating!

Ginzing Refreshing Eye Cream To Brighten and Depuff

I think the main selling point of this is the colour, it’s pink so when it’s under the eyes it helps to brighten and balances out any dark circles. Don’t get me wrong this isn’t a miracle worker and you do still need a concealer if like me you look permanently tired but it definitely helps! It’s also hydrating and isn’t heavy under the eyes which is more than ideal!

If there was ever a contestant for my ride or die products these three would definitely be up there with them! I love trying new products especially skincare but this time around I’ve definitly learnt if its not broken dont fix it! Sometimes you should stick to what you know and love!

All Natural Skincare

beauty, Uncategorized

I recently received the Dr. Botanicals Advanced Light Serum Essence which is described as a full strength serum containing Vitamin B5 to keep skin smooth and soft, echinacea to fight blemishes and aloe vera to hydrate. I’ve been using it every night in my nighttime routine as the step before my moisturizer and I am very impressed.

IMG_2466

The bottle contains a pipet style dropper to get the product which only picks up a small amount so there is very little wastage as you only need a tiny amount. Online it says to use three drops however I find one more than enough! Texture wise it’s waterlike while still feeling thick (I don’t know how that works either!). However, it melts onto the skin like a dream and soaks in almost instantly.

Come morning time my skin is glowing, like a holiday glow but without the tan. If you’ve read any of my other posts you’ll know I’m a massive fan of the glow! I don’t think this product helps breakouts but it certainly doesn’t cause them either which I was surprised about given that it smells like sweets!

Dr. Botanicals is a vegan brand which claims to provide all natural products, something I’m always interested in despite not being at all vegan. The products online can sometimes be a bit expensive but from what I can see there are always discounts and offers on so I’d say it’s definitely worth trying them as a brand!
